Why Sports Cars Cost More To Insure

I am very sure you have noticed that sports cars cost more to insure than other types of car – even when the purchase price of the sports car is less expensive, but there are several reasons for this. One reason is that insurance companies ‘group' certain types of cars into categories ranging from 1 through 20, 1 being the least expensive like Fiat Panda and 20 as the most expensive type of car to insure like Porsche 911. Another reason is that sports cars are a hot item for car thieves, and of course increased risk comes with increased premium.

Insurance companies believe that if you drive a sports car there is an increased risk you will be in an accident and that the accident will be more serious (and costly) than if you were driving a regular car, hence, a higher premium charge. This may be a shocker at first for all the young professionals out there, but insuring a sports car is more expensive for owners under 30 years old. Insurance companies not only see the car you drive as being a high risk car to insure, but you as the driver is far risky to insure as well.
