One of the most popular cars in the world,
Volkswagen's beetle has been a favorite family auto. Because of its distinctive shape, the beetle survived and reigned in the market for almost seven decades. It has undergone various remodeling, and has become a vintage car. The beetle is one of the icon designs of the present century.
Ferdinand Porsche, whose name is associated mostly with sports cars, designed first prototype of beetle in 1930's. Volkswagen's production began in the 1935 and was temporarily stopped during the Second World War. The last batch of beetles was manufactured in Mexico some two years ago. All in all, Volkswagen's production reached up to a height of 21 million. The beetle is a world title holder for the biggest number of produced vehicles. Sixty-eight years of success will be ever remembered in car history.
Unknown to many, Adolf Hitler was greatly involved in the beetle's publicity. He was the one who coined the car as Volks wagen or people's auto. The car has also been a
legacy of Hitler, since he used them mainly for military purposes and traveled the deserts while the German people are on the war campaign. The beetle has survived times, and will continue leaving skid marks in automobile memory lane.
